Top Five Tips for using upholstery to add wow factor to your garden for Summer.

Summer is officially upon us and now is the time to get outside to enjoy the Great British Summer weather but is your garden ready?

If your garden, courtyard or balcony isn't looking its best then why not consider a bit of an upholstery makeover to add that perfect lounging comfort?

Here are my top five tips for using upholstery to add wow factor to your outdoor space...

Tip #1: Use scatter cushions for an instant win

The quickest, cheapest and easiest way to give your garden furniture an instant lift is to add scatter cushions. They add a pop of colour and personality as well as comfort to your outdoor space.

You can mix and match patterns and colours to create an inviting and visually appealing space. Sustainable tip - If you already have cushions but they're looking a bit lacklustre, consider getting new cushion covers made for your existing cushion inners to save unnecessary waste.

Tip #2: Reupholster your existing garden furniture

Take a look around the off-the-shelf options for garden furniture and you'll see a multitude of grey, cream and beige. Furniture that does the job but quickly fades into boring and uninspiring. They often end up looking dirty and ragged after only a few years. But don't despair - there are some incredible outdoor fabrics that can save your current furniture from the landfill waste pile and give you the garden of your dreams.

Whether it is a full garden sofa or seat pads for your outdoor dining table, updating the fabric on your seat cushions from plain neutral to colour-popped or patterned can make a real difference.

Tip #3: Floor cushions and bean bags

Floor cushions or bean bags can be the perfect option for those with smaller gardens or balcony spaces.

Oversize scatter cushions, French-style mattress seating, square pouffes or the traditional bean bag shape there are a variety of different styles to create a beautiful, cosy space.

They are a versatile option that can be easily moved to create extra seating when you have more guests or just for following the sunny spot around your garden as you go through the day!

Tip #4: Don't forget the shade

If your garden lacks natural shade, consider adding an umbrella, pergola, or canopy to protect you from both the sun's rays and those pesky summer showers.

A shade over your garden furniture will also have the added bonus of protecting your outdoor fabric from the effects of direct sunlight, which will help prevent fading and prolong the lifespan of the fabric.

Tip #5: Go bespoke & embrace your story!

Finally and perhaps most importantly of all...your garden or outside space is exactly that - YOURS! So why have the same plain, neutral garden as everyone else? Fill your garden with colours, patterns and pieces that make you smile and are comfortable for relaxing and enjoying your time. It doesn't have to look like the pages of a magazine, it just needs to work for you and your friends and family.

Whether it's floral, neon, geometric, jungle themed or stripes, there is an outdoor fabric out there to suit your style and budget.

A little bit of effort for a great reward

The garden often gets overlooked and it can feel like too much effort and too big a job to get it sorted but it really is worth a little time now for a summer of fun and (hopefully!) sunshine! I hope you've enjoyed my tips for using upholstery in the garden and feel inspired to get outdoors.
